The "Good Old Days" are...TODAY.

As we close out 2021 and get ready to welcome the new year, I wanted to share this devotional here on my blog from Proverbs 31 Ministries. I read it over the holiday break and it hit me like a ton of bricks.

How easy is it to reminisce and think… “those were the good old days”?
How easy is it to dream and wish and hope and think…”those will be the good old days”?
How easy is it to forget that really, truly…all we have is today.
All that’s promised is the present moment.
That’s the good we need to focus on.

I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the best at remembering the “good old days” are today. I get caught up in dreaming about what things will be like when our house is out of diapers, when the kids are older, when we have more of our bucket list checked off, when we don’t have certain bills to pay, when we…yada yada yada.

But let this be your reminder. A reminder for all of us…

None of the thinking I mention above considered is “bad or negative thinking”. It’s natural to let your mind wander off into thinking about how things used to be or how things could have been or how you hope things to be in the future. At the same time, it’s so important for all of us to recognize that’s not the thinking that keeps us grounded and grateful - right now. Remembering that the “good old days” are TODAY is about getting aware of our thought patterns and focusing on gratitude for the present.

That’s the mindset we need to harness most often.

I also spoke in depth about focus for the end of the year and how celebrating the things we ARE doing is an essential as we look ahead to new goals, new dreams and a fresh start. Feel free to listen in to my most recent episode below…

Wishing you peace, joy and happiness as we welcome 2022. Don’t forget - the “good old days” are TODAY. ENJOY it as much as possible!
