My First Half Marathon

As of Saturday, January 8th at just after 8:00AM EST - I was able to officially call myself a HALF MARATHON RUNNER! Even as I sit here today, trying to soak up the events from almost a week ago, it’s hard to believe that I checked this massive personal goal off my bucket list!

Race weekend was everything I imagined it would be and more. From the EXPO to the energy to the 1,000’s of people participating and volunteering - the uplifting encouragement I felt at runDisney was truly something special.

While the run was harder than I anticipated - I learned a few things

  • I CAN do hard things. Things I never thought were possible.

  • My body is STRONG and CAPABLE. Post 4 babies and while nothing is the same, I feel
stronger than I ever have before.

  • Your mind is your most valuable asset. It believes exactly what you tell it!

  • It’s OK to set big, scary goals and work towards them.

My ultimate goal with working towards running a half marathon was running the entire thing and beating my time goal (of 2:30 or faster). Meeting both of these goals made the event that much sweeter. And made me feel that much more PROUD of the hard work I put in to focus on accomplishing something I never thought was possible.

Let this be your reminder…YOU are capable of anything you set your mind to. Your goals. Your dreams. The vision you have for your life. The things you want to accomplish, change, grow into and more…it matters. Don’t let anything or anyone deter you from pushing towards the things on your heart. You DESERVE to reap the benefits and the rewards of your dedication and hard work.

While I can’t believe I’m saying this…it’s true. I’m a HALF MARATHON RUNNER. And I can’t wait for many more races to come!
