WHY Mental Health as the Focus?

I’ve been thinking long and hard about mental and emotional well-being lately - especially now that I’ve dipped into launching the BE KIND TO YOUR MIND sweatshirts at The Momlife Mindset Shop.

I’ve wanted to include apparel as a part of my brand for years. While this is a very, small stepping stone towards the big dreams I have - it’s had me digging more and more into the root of WHY I really want to do what I’m doing.

I started diving deeper into the health and wellness space about 5.5 years ago on my own health and wellness journey. Prior to that - I studied social work and psychology - thinking that I would land in a counseling office one day, working with students preparing for their transition to college.

That never happened.

Instead - I was led to work in the corporate world…starting as an administrative assistant and moving into Human Resources for my last 2.5 years of my corporate work. Then came moving abroad and stepping into motherhood - landing me in one of the hardest places I had ever been - mentally - after my second kiddo was born.

As I was transitioning from 1-2 kids, felt buried in the day to day grind and found the idea of following through with my “old ways” of taking care of ME just too hard - I needed an outlet and a solution. Mostly because it felt impossible to prioritize time for myself. It also felt impossible to execute - as I had no extra mental capacity to put the pieces together alone.

That’s when I came across Beachbody and made the decision to partner with their organization as a means to empower myself and other women to prioritize self-care. Five and a half years later - here I am. And while I’m still coaching and love the work I do - I know deep down, God has called me to serve in unique ways when it comes to the mental and emotional well-being component.

I’m pivoting. I’ve pivoted. I’m expanding. Diversifying. Learning to listen to where I feel called, setting boundaries where I know they’re necessary to protect my peace and growing in new, scary ways that make me extremely uncomfortable.

SO - OVERALL, WHY THE MENTAL HEALTH FOCUS?
Because that’s what matters most. Mental health IS our health.

And I know God has a bigger plan for bringing awareness to that.

Please know that keeping your mental and emotional well-being at the center of your effort are the catalyst to deeper, sustainable health change. At the end of the day, the weight we carry (from the inside out) is all intertwined. Don’t be afraid to keep advocating for your needs. Don’t be afraid to keep going deeper into the things that seem to hold you down or hold you back. It’s a process. A marathon. An investment and an incredible journey. One that deserves your effort because YOU deserve the effort. And you deserve to feel your absolute best throughout the day to day life you lead.
