What a Girl Really Wants
I know we’ve all heard those cliche lines…
A girl just really wants to get married. Wants babies. Wants diamonds. Wants chocolate.
But you know what’s not talked about often enough? Something that actually matters to a woman?
How a girl just really wants friends.
As I grow further into adulthood, I’ve realized there are moments when I minimize myself. I’ve been conditioned by my past and I think women can relate to that. Passions, visions, dreams, goals, ideas. Somehow we grow terrified of the judgment because we’ve been judged or hurt or overly competitive for the wrong reasons. And we’re certain that being too loud or too honest will spark unkind behavior from other women.
We become paralyzed by this idea that we’ll lose our acceptance and our friends, so we make ourselves and our story smaller. We dodge the truth in hopes that it keeps our friendships alive. Whether we want to openly admit it or not, that dynamic exists with women. We’ve all felt it. Maybe some more than others, but it’s there.
Point Blank: It’s hard to be a woman and live without fear of judgment. But why?
Our team leaders retreat was this weekend and I arrived home overwhelmed with emotion. After you surround yourself with women that value talking through imperfect thoughts like this...it truly comes down to one vivid message:
A girl just really wants friends.
No guilt.
No shame.
No comparison.
Deep down - women desire to have true friends that freakin’ cheer her on and lift her up. People that accept her just the way she is. Baggage, imperfection, quirks and all! That kind of unconditional love? It’s unlike any other kind of love on this planet. It’s a gift. And it’s something we have to collaborate on every single day.
I can admittedly say this isn’t an easy thing. I’m not always good at it. While it can be a challenge more than I like to admit, I know it’s important to share because it’s a challenge for many. There are still times I find myself fighting hard against my gut instinct and my conditioned behaviors from the past. Trying not to minimize my passion or my drive. Trying not to compare and compete. Trying not to overdo it so I’m still accepted. It can be an exhausting cycle if you let it.
But that’s the power of like-minded community. In our tribe of women, we’re in the business of building bridges. Wellness is the platform, but LIFE is where we execute. We work hard. We play harder. We love deeper and we work through the imperfection together. Our goal is to build bridges out of truth and vulnerability so we ALL win and we ALL feel empowered to live our best life. And DAMN - that feels good.
Ladies - here’s the message tonight. And I need it just as much as the next person. Keep learning to let down your guard. If you’re struggling, give yourself permission to lean in to support from other women. It can be scary, but it’s WORTH it. And if you have no clue where this kind of authentic support comes from, send me a note and let’s chat! Through the stories we share in this video, I want you to know - there’s a special place for you on our team of wellness coaches too.
Open your heart. Open your mind. Allow yourself to be vulnerable and embrace that you’re imperfect, just like all of us! When you do that, I can promise the love that meets you on the other side is unlike any other love in this world.
You need it.
I need it.
We all need it.
Because after all…
A girl just really wants friends.
